Welcome to the SpeedPoker.info, new site dedicated to exciting new poker game - Speed Poker, also known as Speed Holdem or Turbo poker.

Speed poker is a poker game where the blinds rise at a more accelerated rate than at a regular poker game. Additionally, the amount of time each player has to act is reduced. Usually, the blinds will increase every 5 minutes, but sometimes the blinds rise every 3 minutes. This creates a more action packed, intense type of poker game where people have to act and act quickly.

It is believed that compared to regular poker, speed poker games have a higher reliability on luck.

Since people have a tendency to either fold or go all-in (put the last of their chips into the pot) before the flop (the first 3 out of 5 community cards dealt simultaneously), there is rarely any play after the flop. Hence, aggressive play is crucial at a speed poker. Passive play will enable the blinds to wear down your stack fast.

Jeremy Evans from PokerTeam about Speed poker tournaments:
" Pressure is coming from two ends: the fear of being blinded out of the game on the one hand and on the other hand, when the decision to act comes, you have less time to make it so many players panic. Online poker players tend to love the turbo poker or speed poker tournaments since it occurs quickly and something is always happening. Turbo poker tend to be the tournament that fill up the quickest among online poker sites.

For players who already tend to act decisively and better under pressure, the speed poker is a great innovation. Often online poker tournaments which are played under Turbo or Speed conditions, don’t take much time which is another plus over the tournament which can drag for over a couple of hours." poker

The most common variant of speed poker is Texas hold'em. Although theoretically any poker variant could be played in a speed format, to date only Texas hold 'em has been widely played.

It looks like that only Mansion Ltd. had trademarked its online version of speed poker, Mansion speed poker (US TM number 78978551 and 78734557). In Mansion speed poker, rules and rankings are identical to standard Texas hold 'em. The differences in rules mostly relate to the time players have to act on their hands. Each player has 15 seconds to act before his or her hand is ruled dead (or checked if there has been no previous action). Players are given one or more 30 second time extensions which they may use on any turn.

Wesley R Young from GoodCasinos about speed poker:
" I recently had the opportunity to watch a new version of tournament poker called speed poker. The format I watched was played using Texas holdem, with pot limit betting before the flop and no limit betting after the flop. Each player had 15 seconds to act, or their hand was automatically folded, and each player had a time bank they could activate if they needed extra time. Once all of the time was used in the time bank, they could not use it again. The game required two dealers to keep on top of the action and the tables started six handed. This speed poker format was very interesting to watch, as the game moved along at a very nice pace, and it reminded me of playing online poker. "

Card Player Magazine credits Australian Keith Sloan with developing the speed poker variant.
